Got sick of having black fingers every time I opened the rear hatch on my ’07 4runner, so I found this replacement. It’s fits perfectly and took less than 30 min to install. There are good online instructions how to get the hatch apart to replace the switch. You can certainly use a screwdriver to pop off the plastic panels, but I’d recommend spending the $10 or so and getting the right tools for the job. The plastic trim removal tools will keep you from scratching up your interior.Picture of the old and new switch. The black stuff on my fingers was melted rubber from the old switch. It was stuck to the trim piece and I had to scrape it off before installing the new switch.

The original button on my 4runner actually melted into a gooey mess, then froze solid during the winter, so I had to replace this switch. I bought this one for $39, which I thought was a bit steep, but there was really no other option. Replacement was fairly straight forward, though a set of nylon trim tools help. There are a number of videos online that show the replacement procedure. New button works great, hopefully it doesn’t melt like the original one did.

I have an 07 4Runner and over the years, the rubber on the liftgate switch melted and stuck to my hand anytime I had to open it. VERY annoying. This switch took me roughly one hour to replace and now my liftgate functions perfectly. Very pleased with the price and quality of the product. It is also a Genuine Toyota Part!

Perfect fit for the 4Runner. The part was as advertised, and a perfect replacement to the broken liftgate release switchBeware that swapping this part out is a pain in the butt though. You need to pop the trim off the interior of the liftgate, unbolt 6 bolts that hold on the exterior trim piece, and then you can access the part to replace. Don’t try to unscrew without taking it all apart; you can’t get to the plug without taking everything apart

I watched a Youtube video about replacing this switch. Apparently, it’s not an uncommon thing to have to replace and the dealer wanted over $350 to replace it. Along with he A1 Auto Panel Trim Removal tool for door panels, a little time on the Youtube vide, this was a cinch to replace and it works great. My wife is thrilled to not have the sticky messy old switch to have to deal with and we were happy to have saved a lot of money doing this project. Only about an hour all in.

I decided to take this project on after watching a few YouTube vids on how to replace the lift gate switch on my 2006 Toyota 4runner. The stock switch had essentially disintegrated / melted beyond recognition and this was the perfect solution. If you are replacing a damaged on like I did, just make sure you thoroughly clean the mounting area so it seats properly into place. Well worth the money and works fantastic!

This switch works great so far. I have had this installed for about 3 months now.Installation was not too bad after watching a video on how to open up the rear hatch access and get to the switch.I have a 2007 4Runner SR5 and this worked perfectly.
