about 2 years ago, i purchased a beckett float gauge for my 275 gallon heating oil tank. i wanted a quick way to measure my heating oil so i don’t run out. well, in about october of 2016, i noticed that the gauge was reading EMPTY right after a delivery. i came online and read up on some updated reviews, only to find that apparently the float fills up with oil over time, and sinks, causing the EMPTY reading. frustrated, i came back on amazon and ordered this stick. sometimes, you just have to do things they old fashioned way. this stick fits the bill perfectly. comes in a very long box, so i trimmed it down some and use it to store the stick in. you simply fold the stick out, and insert into the tank to get your reading in inches. go online and search for “heating oil tank chart” and you will get a chart. this is the fool proof way to assure you don’t run out of oil during the heating season. so glad amazon had this! couldn’t find this locally.

I have to carry a tank stick for my job, this one folds up and can be stored in a 1 1/2 inch piece of PVC. I added an extra segment for those really deep tanks and it still fits in the PVC pipe. I keep it in the PVC and keep the PVC capped with rubber caps to help keep the diesel smell out of my vehicle. This stick is like a bunch of yardsticks attached with pivots so that it folds like a carpenter’s rule.

I considered getting an expensive (as in $150) reader which connects to your phone, and gives you the exact amount of gallons left. But I am broke and don’t want to spend that much, so I found this. It works great! I printed out a chart for 275 gallon tank (yours may be different). It lists the inches and the amount of gallons left. Super simple. I measure once every 3 months during the winter, so taking the time to manually check isn’t s big deal at all to me. Takes me maybe 5 minutes to check. It works.

Does not click in place when you open it. Would be a reasonable buy at half the price.

This is made well but hard to see where the fuel measures on the stick due to the dark color. It’s readable, but next time I’d go for a lighter color.

I needed to find out how many gallons of heating oil was left in the tank. This measuring stick was easy to use and fulfilled all my needs.
