Fit my 2001 tacoma with electronic rear diff lock. Pain in the but to cut off the old cover.

Buckle up, Jimmy. You’re in for a shitshow. This is a great cover, well made, fits great. Some ape sunk the fill plug a bit tight, but if you need this cover, you’ve got bigger problems.Youre going to drain the diff, pull the axles, drop the third member, cut the old housing off, grind it flat, weld the new one on, reinstall everything. Not to mention brakes…oh God.Now, the cover is great, no issues. This is a dumb toyota design to begin with.I love it

Honestly can’t believe this is available on Amazon but I’m thankful it is. Badly rusted rear dif cover on 3rd gen 4runner… thought I’d be able to grind/wire-wheel it down to bare metal, paint, and call it a day, but ended up with several small pin holes where rust had eaten all the way through. Also missing a tab for attaching brake line, so opted for this full cover rather than a patch job.

heavy gauge, fits well.Best to completely strip axle housing though for proper prep.

Worked well on my 97 4Runner. Seems slightly beefier than the stock cover. Exact same dimensions as stock cover and does not interfere with pan hard bar.

Drain the diff, grind off the old, welded this new cover on, fill with and send it! Way cheaper and easier than swapping the whole third member out. Hopefully this gets 300k miles like the OEM cover did. Highly recommend this fix.

Welding required so correct fitting was important, did not fit my 2003 Tacoma 4×4 extended cab 2.7 – probably my fault but can’t say it wasn’t from not doing my home work.

I used this on my 2000 4Runner. The old one had rust holes in it and I opted for replacing the cover instead of finding a used rear axle housing. Be prepared for a lot of work. I removed the housing from the vehicle and removed the axles and gears. Grinding off the old cover made lots of metal grit everywhere that needed to be cleaned out before reassembling it. Gotta line the new cover up straight so the gears don’t rub. Need someone that’s a good welder to make a solid bead. Looks great when it’s finished and it’s thicker than the old one. Very happy with purchase.
