I bought the part for a 1998 Ford Windstar. Pressure switch fits fine into the master cylinder, but the wire harness jumper plug connection does not fit the 1998 Windstar harness. I had to cut the jumper and splice it into the existing wire harness. It was not a complicated job just an inconvenience. Everything worked fine after that.

It took me a long time and a lot of searching for this part but it works. Other names for this darn thing are brake pressure transducer, cruise control deactivation switch, and brake pressure switch. I have a 2004 Ford Freestar Limited with the 4.2L V6. The cord that came with it might work but I didn’t try to install it because the cord all ready on my van was attached to a couple of others and found it not worth my time to try and change it. It is a super easy part to replace as well. If your traction control light is on and the cruise control doesn’t work properly, this is what’s wrong.Take out your air filter assembly and you can see the part connected immediately beneath the master cylinder. Unhook the electrical connection on the bottom and unscrew the part 3/4 of the way with a monkey wrench. Brake fluid will start coming out so have the new part ready with a drop or so of new brake fluid on it. Unscrew the part and plug up the hole it goes in with a gloved hand while you get the new part. Screw in the new part and make sure it is tight but not too tight. Hook up the electrical cord and you are set. Don’t forget to put your air filter assembly back on as well 😉 If you can clear your C1288 ABS code, you can do it now as well. I hope this review helps because it was very difficult to find any help besides the expensive, roundabout dealership myself.

This totally fixed the issue in my 2002 Windstar. No more brake light, no more leaking brake fluid, and now I can actually use the cruise control! Takes about 5 minutes to install.

This item worked perfectly to fix the cruise control / speed control on my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport. I didn’t need the wire harness. Just the switch.

This is the second Windstar/Freestar I have done this simple fix on. This eliminated a very annoying safety problem. Don’t get rid of your vehicle before you do this fix!

This fixed the cruise control on mt 2004 Sport Track – I only used the sensor – On the sport trac 2004 – the sensor wire disappears into wiring loom so i’m not sure if cable can be used. A bit expensive for using only 1/2 the kit, but saved me a 100/hr trip to the mechanic.

Using a scan tool I pulled codes C1287 and C1288 on my 2005 Ford Freestar SEL 4.2 L, I had the “Trac Off” light on and no cruise control. Now both are fixed!I only needed the pressure switch (ironically not shown in the photo), the wiring harness was not needed and the zip tie will be used for something else. Read the review posted by “The Reader”, he gives installation instructions which were are right on for my vehicle. Five minutes and you’re done. Four stars because of the extra parts I didn’t need, but this set looks cheaper than buying the switch alone so maybe better.

Picture only shows the adapter cable but it comes with the switch too. Appears to be genuine and it worked like a charm. 2000 Windstar 3.8
