I am a former full-time mechanic but currently just wrench on cars as a hobby for myself, friends, family, and coworkers. I like being able to save money on service and enjoy the peace of mind knowing that the job was done properly when I change oil myself. I have seen some absolutely mind boggling shoddy work done in so called “professional” shops which is why I still do my own oil changes. I have a lot of experience with many high-end tool brands but after years of being in debt to the Snap-On and Matco man, learned which tools needed to be higher end and which I can get by with a lesser brand. I have had very good experience with OMT (Orion Motor Tech) tools in the past, especially their o2 sensor sockets, wheel bearing press kits, and brake kits. I have many different styles of oil filter wrenches but this set from OMT has been my go to wrench and I couldn’t be happier with it. It has a cam system that bites down on the filter when you apply loosening tension and it puts a lot of torque on stubborn filters. It’s a very well designed tool that anyone who changes oil should have.

What I like most about this 2 piece oil filter removal tool is how these automatically adjust to the filter size, which makes the whole removal process super easy. No more messing around trying to get the right size wrench…these just lock on and go.You can use them with a ratchet or even an extension if you’re working in a tight spot, which came in handy more than once. They feel well made and sturdy, not cheap or flimsy like some other tools I’ve tried. Once they’re on, they grip the filter really well with no slippage, so the filter comes off without a fight.It’s a solid set to have in the garage if you like doing your own maintenance.

These things are seriously heavy-duty! The heft alone lets you know they’ll last a very long time. The fit and finish look like something that came off an expensive tool truck, with a durable matte black finish.The clamping mechanism is clever and functions in both directions when you turn it past center while off the filter. The grip is very strong, but I would NOT use this (or any tool) to tighten/install an oil filter. I keep a collection of filter wrenches in my toolbox for stubborn filters, but this one should replace them all—except in one key area: size.These are bulky and won’t fit in tight spaces. Fortunately, they accounted for that by including not only a 1/2″ drive for a ratchet but also a 22mm hex you can get an open-ended wrench around for lower-profile situations.So far, it has removed my Tacoma and RX300 oil filters flawlessly.

It works as long as the super small springs don’t pop off, then it’s scrap metal. Pretty difficult to use in tight spaces. Heavy duty except the springs.
